ROCKROSE PICKS STUDENT DESIGN FOR LIC TOWER
Jan. 4, 2013 - Real State Weekly
Rockrose Development Corp. announced the “Top Three” results of a competition with Interior Design students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), in which 40 students submitted designs for three different model studio apartments at Rockrose’s new luxury rental high-rise, Linc LIC, now under construction in Long Island City, Queens.
The winning students are Paola Barazza, Katherine Stec and Gregory Bardwell. They were selected by Rockrose executives after FIT narrowed the field from 40 submissions to 12 finalists.
All 40 who took part in the competition are undergraduates in the FIT BFA Interior Design program. The students were mentored by Eric Daniels, assistant professor of Interior Design and a Manhattan-based architect, and studio instructors Michael Buchanan and Joseph Lembo.
The three Rockrose model apartments will be built out in adherence to the students’ interior designs and are expected to be on view starting at the commencement of the project’s leasing campaign next year.
Working under “real world” conditions and professional guidelines, including New York City building codes and budgetary and time contraints, the project will produce actual interiors of three model studio apartments – complete with furniture, fixtures and finishes. All three model studio residences are unique in character and location within the property, and will offer visitors and apartment hunters the opportunity to see a wide range of design creativity.
During the leasing campaign, the public will be invited to vote for their favorite design among the three by visiting the model apartments. In fall 2013, the three winning students will be revealed as first, second and third prize winners at a congratulatory event, based on the visitors’ votes.
The winners will receive cash awards.
