History & Philosophy
History
Rockrose has been an industry leader and an influential force in real estate for half a century. Founded in 1970, the company got its start renovating Greenwich Village brownstones. This early success led to larger projects throughout the city including multi-family new construction, large-scale rehabilitation, and major office development.
Over the past five decades, Rockrose has acquired, developed or repositioned nearly 6 million square feet of office space and approximately 15,000 residential apartments in New York and Washington, DC. The company has pioneered many of New York’s most sought-after neighborhoods and continues to find opportunities to establish new communities. Our exceptional buildings and spaces are woven into the fabric of the city, and have been essential to making it the extraordinary place it is today.
Philosophy
Rockrose is guided by a creative vision and commitment to make our neighborhoods better places to live and work. We are committed to creating communities and buildings that will become vital city centers. This is achieved with a simple business strategy: select projects carefully with a long-term strategy in mind, plan rigorously, design and construct buildings to stand the test of time, and manage intensively.
With a hands-on approach, we conceive the right mix of residences, cultivate retail spaces appropriate to the neighborhood, create influential architecture, and design thoughtful amenities to produce outstanding buildings, neighborhoods and spaces that positively impact residents, tenants and the broader community. We are distinguished by our longstanding strategy as a multi-generational, long-term holder and manager of all our properties. Our buildings are known for high quality, award-winning architecture and design.
