ROCKROSE REDESIGN OF 1150 18TH STREET NW CELEBRATED AT “AN EVENING OF ART”

Oct. 23, 2012 - Citybiz - Washington D.C.

Rockrose Development Corp. showcased its redesign and upgrade of 1150 18th Street NW, a Class-A office building in Washington’s Golden Triangle Business District, during a gala reception last week.

About 200 real estate professionals and art lovers attended the event, which also marked the public debut and permanent installation of a large, major artwork by Sol LeWitt. In a collaboration among the artist’s estate, the Whitney Museum and Rockrose, LeWitt’s 15 x 30-foot Wall Drawing 882-D dominates the building’s new lobby.

At the reception, guests were treated to music by a New Orleans jazz band, cocktails and Champagne, and an installation of works by artists affiliated with Washington’s Long View Gallery. Curated by Drew Porterfield, the exhibition included works by Mike Weber, Cheryl Wassenaar, Tony Savoie, Thomas Burkett, Ryan McCoy, Gian Garafalo, Marie Ringwald, Michelle Peterson-Albandoz and Jason Wright.

New York City-based Rockrose purchased 1150 18th Street in 2011 and engaged Fox Architects to redesign the building’s lobby, elevators, common areas and restrooms. The improvements enhanced the building’s original, ultramodern design by architect Don Hisaka.

Over the past two decades, Rockrose has invested approximately $1 billion developing, acquiring, repositioning and selling more than 2.9 million square feet of commercial space in 11 buildings located in New York City and Washington, D.C.  The company also developed New York City’s Carnegie Hall Tower.
